PS4 Unboxing – Check out the first member of the Next Gen
Like many die-hard geeks, we at Dorkadia have been eagerly awaiting our Playstation 4 since it was first announced back in February of 2013. After many long, agonizing months of waiting, we joyfully received a large Amazon box recently. And inside hid the future of gaming.
The PS4 is the first of next-gen consoles to launch (the Xbox One releases a week later, on November 22nd). Despite being first to market, nothing about the construction of the PS4 feels rushed. It’s elegant, sleek, and damn sexy.
The packaging of the PS4 is surprisingly slim, much like the console itself. Inside you’ll find the console, 1 DualShock 4 controller, a USB charging cable for the controller, 1 HDMI cable, a power cable, and a rather flimsy looking earbud, presumably for multiplayer gaming/chat. There are also a few basic pamphlets which can be promptly thrown aside. I mean who reads those things anyways?
The PS4 is both shorter and thinner than the original XBOX360. The PS4 controller is about the same width as the XBOX 360 controller, but more svelte than it’s previous-generation cousin.
The PS4 has a few basic ports on the back including power, optical out (for your surround sound receiver/amp), an HDMI port, LAN port, and one marked “AUX”. One small victory – the PS4 has no giant power brick or wall wort, just a power cable that connects to the console. Lovely!
From our first hands-on experience with the PS4, it’s a beautiful and modern console which seems almost understated in it’s design. We can’t wait to actually power it on – stay tuned for our full PS4 review!
